Why Following A Rigid Meal Plan Will Not Work For You On Your Fat Loss Journey!

Years ago I used to be a rigid meal plan girl. I used to work with different coaches and get given rigid meal plans to follow to drop bodyfat. I did this leading upto my fitness shows - which I did achieve the desired body composition at the time. But, the big problem came when I’d finished my shows and then I would try to continue on a meal plan, I could not keep it up, I had no balance, I didn't know how to! I started to gain weight back because I then didn’t stick to the plan and then I’d get frustrated think “IVE FUCKED IT” and then eat what I wanted. Check in time would come with the coach and I would lie about what I’d eaten and say I’d stuck to the plan knowing full well I hadn’t. I felt like an idiot and just couldn’t understand why I couldn’t do it!
Finally, after going round in circles and then gaining the weight back that I had lost - yes I gained it all back, I decided I couldn't carry on in this cycle and something needed to change. I stopped chasing this show look that I had previously obtained, I took the time out to learn about myself and what I wanted, I took time out to learn about nutrition, habits, mindset - and I can tell you now, rigid meal plans are not the way forward for true change in the mind and body!
Meal plans do have their place in the health/fitness industry (as mentioned above I had one when I competed for my shows). I get asked whether I will provide meal plans when people want to work with me… I don’t blame people for asking me. But most of the time, meal plans do not work if you want long lasting SUSTAINABLE results.
So here’s why…
Meal plans are temporary - just like it was for my fitness shows - it was temporary for those weeks leading up to the show! The show was done - now what? I was stuck and just didn't know how to do life and keep the weight off.
They do not take into consideration social events - I remember being on meal plans and had to take my food everywhere. Then, when I had a social event I'd panic as I didn’t know what to eat, or I would eat out and then think i’ve ruined the meal plan now.
You feel as though you are ‘on’ or ‘off’ plan - point above - you’re either “on the wagon" or "fallen off the wagon!" Been there?
You associate food with ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Those foods on your plan are good? The foods off plan are bad.
Most of us seeking to change our bodyweight, do not need a prescribed meal plan to follow.
You just need to be patient, really ask yourself what you want, look at what you are eating / drinking now, learn about nutrition and healthy habits, look at your current habits that have been installed over the years and see how you can improve them, slowly! You don’t need a complete change of every habit in your life - you just need to make some small adjustments, make some better choices. I promise if you do this you will have long lasting forever results!
Now that you’ve read the above - write down every single thing you do in the day - the good habits, the bad habits - every single part of your day including what you put in your mouth over the next week - then the following week change something - make a better / healthier choice. Monitor and adjust - remember WHATEVER IS MEASUREABLE IS CHANGEABLE!
